This fast and easy recipe has been handed down from generation to generation in my family. It makes a delicious yeast dinner roll that you will be proud to serve. We make these every Thanksgiving, but they are simple enough you may want to make them year round.
5 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
1 package dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
2 cups buttermilk
melted butter
Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add yeast, water and buttermilk to dry ingredients. Mix well. Roll out 1/2 inch thick and cut with round biscuit cutter. Dip in melted butter and fold in half. Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees until brown, about 10-12 minutes.
